Jana Kramer is using her celebrity for good. The country singer, who is a survivor of domestic violence, raised awareness for victims ahead of her Dancing With the Stars performance on Monday, October 17.

Kramer, 32, posted a photo of herself in her dressing room and held up her ring finger, its nail painted with purple polish. “1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and more than 3 million children witness it at home in the U.S. I am a survivor, myself,” she captioned the Instagram pic. “As a mother, I think of my own daughter—I want my daughter to know that no man should ever put their hands on her. This is why I am joining @safehorizon in painting my left ring fingernail purple to signify my vow against domestic violence.

Kramer has been vocal about her past experience with domestic violence. Last week, she recalled the abuse she suffered at the hands of her first husband, Michael Gambino, and the day she thought he was going to kill her during an emotional interview on Good Morning America.

The feedback has been amazing,” Kramer told Us on October 10. “I read comments on Twitter all the time from people saying, ‘I was in a bad relationship and now I’m out and thank you for your story.’ It’s inspired me to know my worth and that was why I did it. To be able to help people.
