Jana Kramer: I Paint my Ring Fingernail Purple Because

Jana Kramer #PutTheNailinIt Domestic Violence

I Paint my Ring Fingernail Purple Because: Domestic Violence Survivor and Country Star, Jana Kramer

I thought if I shared my story, people would view me as broken. I held it in for 14 years. I met my abuser when I was 19 years old, he was 17 years my senior but he was charming. It all started amazing, and then one thing led to another. It started with verbal abuse. Then it was a push or a shove. And then it became a choke. I thought, ‘if you choke me harder, then I’ll leave.’ It kept getting worse and I didn’t know how to get out. I thought it was my fault. I lost all my friends. I truly felt like I was stuck. I never understood why it happened to me, but now knowing the platform that I have, I want to be able to be a voice. And I want to be able to help. I have a 14-month-old baby girl and I would do anything to protect her. Going into a [Safe Horizon] shelter and seeing these beautiful children being protected…I have never been more proud and I promise to be the loudest voice for Safe Horizon.

Join Jana and take the vow to #PutTheNailinIt to end domestic violence and the silence around it.
